Reports on Friday claimed the striker was set to be dropped after a training ground bust-up with manager Antonio Conte and his coaching staff, amid reports of a big-money bid from an unnamed Chinese Super League club
Conta was indeed missing when the squad to face the title holders was announced, with Eden Hazard playing up front in his place as Chelsea thumped the Foxes 4-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Head coach Conte insisted following the game that Costa was ruled out with a back injury, although he did not directly comment on a rumoured falling out.
After missing three days of training, however, Costa was back on the training field for solo sessions on Sunday and Monday after supposedly undergoing treatment on his back problem.
Conte, his staff and Costa’s team-mates will return following two days off on Tuesday, but Chelsea insist the 28-year-old’s solitary sessions are part of his recovery, and nothing to do with the speculation over his future.
Costa, who has scored 14 Premier League goals in 19 appearances this season, will be evaluated again on Tuesday to determine if or when he can rejoin first-team squad training.
Chelsea, who have a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League, next play at home to Hull on Sunday.
